In 1995, Dr. Prof. George Korula accepted the responsibility of developing the new specialty of Reproductive Medicine in CMC, Vellore. It was a responsibility fraught with challenges, given that it was a highly specialized and sensitive area of expertise. He trained in this specialty in Australia and then established it in CMC, Vellore.
Dr. Prof. George Korula had to draft the regulations, protocols and procedures, set up the laboratory and train the staff, all of which he accomplished with the meticulous detailing he is so well known for. As a result, the Reproductive Medicine Unit today is an exemplary state of the art centre, the only one in India attached to a medical college. He also developed a rigorous academic and teaching programme, passing on his skills and training through the Post Doctoral Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and Clinical Embryology for clinicians and Postgraduate Diploma in Assisted Reproductive Technology for laboratory staff. Dr. George Korula was also extremely focused on research and evidence based practice, and he inculcated the same in every member of his team. His many papers and publications testify to his astute clinical and scientific skills.
